NEWSLETTER – October 2020

WHAT’S HAPPENING AT THE BAR?
Since there have been many changes in regulations for venue space, dance floors, and bars, we have made a few changes and upgrades to the space at Bar XIII. Additional seating is now available where we used to dance the night away as we encourage social distancing; a new coin-operated dart machine has been added to the dance floor; and a pool table in the lounge!

Check out the new outdoor seating area surrounded by hanging Edison lights, tables and chairs, and a place to relax and take in the fall weather at Bar XIII. Plenty of seating is now available to enjoy music, drinking, and friends. Please keep all drinks inside the marked area.

Also, check out the Bar XIII Merch Shop on our website. Face masks and tank tops have been added! Walk around in style!

VIRTUES
Hi there and welcome to my little corner of the the Bar XIII newsletter. Many of you know me by name, however some only know me as the Giant in the top hat or simply as “the owner”, so first and foremost I want to introduce myself. My name is Matthew Jester and myself along with Heather Warr are the owners of Bar XIII. We along with an amazing team of creative and driven creatures that work there have spent the last five years creating a place of inclusivity, diversity and sanctuary for any and all and I want to expand on the how and the why of that accomplishment.

The method to our madness can be found laid out on our webpage as our virtues and the one I want to focus on this month is the first one:

Be Yourself

This is a place where you can be whatever you want. We accept all creeds, beliefs, lifestyles and lifeforms.” There is a reason why this one is the first, nothing else speaks more to the truth of the spirit behind Bar XIII. And it doesn’t just speak to the outcasts or misfits that frequent our establishment but is a invitation for any and all to come and find who you truly are when you stop pretending, when you stop following the masses and when you stop letting masks be your identity.

Many people have forgotten in this day and age that we are far more alike than we are different from each other, Bar XIII, by asking you to be yourself offers everyone the opportunity to find the similarities and put aside those differences. We know it’s not always easy (that’s What the alcohol is for) but we do believe that it’s always worth it.
